Spider-Man Is Joining The Marvel Cinematic Universe
We were all hoping this day would come and now it’s finally here. Sony and Marvel Studios have reached an agreement and everyone’s favorite web-slinger will officially be appearing in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. There’s no word yet on whether Andrew Garfield will be reprising the role, but the two companies are promising to take the character in a “new creative direction.”
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had this to say:
“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie. Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”
The feeling seems to be mutual, considering the similarly enthusiastic response from Michael Lynton, the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment:
“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man. This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”
The next solo Spidey movie is set for July 28, 2017 and it has been confirmed that he’ll be showing up in the MCU before then. Captain America: Civil War has a 2016 release date, so it’s safe to say that our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be making an appearance. This is an exciting moment for everyone involved, especially the fans! Let’s hope 20th Century Fox will follow suit and share the X-Men wealth, but we’re not gonna push our luck.
