Director Edgar Wright leaves Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

40

Edgar Wright, the inventive filmmaker behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the Worldwill no longer direct Marvel's Ant-ManAccording to a statement, Wright and Marvel have parted ways due to "differences in their vision of the film," with a new director to be announced shortly. The film is still expected to meet its release date of July 17th, 2015.

Wright has been attached to Ant-Man for quite some time, and the film has been actively moving forward in recent months as Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd joined the cast. The split is being described as amicable, but Wright taking on a Marvel film had been seen by many fans as an exciting prospect given his singular voice and creative vision — not dissimilar to Joss Whedon's involvement with The Avengers. Wright collaborated on the script for Ant-Man with writer-director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), so it stands to reason that some of his trademark whimsy will still be present in the final film, but we'll have a better sense when Marvel formally announces the project's new director.
